Assalamu 'Alaykum!
If you’re a new student, congratulations! You’re now a student at one of the greatest universities in the world! If you’re returning, welcome back! The Muslim Students Assocation is working its hardest this year to meet your needs as a Muslim student on campus.
Here’s a short FAQ on Islam@UW:
Is there a mosque nearby? Where do I go for Jummah prayer?
Here at UW we’re blessed to have a mosque pretty much right on campus. Located at 21 N. Orchard St, it’s known as the Islamic Center of the Madison Area, or ICMA. To get there, go down Dayton Street towards Camp Randall Stadium, and turn left onto Orchard St. The mosque is located down the street a bit, and it’s a white building with the words “Islamic Center” written above the front door.
The door is locked during all times except for Friday prayers, but there is a keycode which you can enter on the door and it will let you inside at any time you wish. The front entrance is for Brothers, and there is an entrance in the back for Sisters. Please email the President, Zeeshan Haq, at zhaq@wisc.edu for these keycodes.
Most students attend ICMA for Jummah prayers. After Jummah, those who don’t have class usually go out and have lunch at a nearby restaurant. Feel free to join us. We promise we won’t bite too hard.
Are there other mosques in Madison?
Alhamdulillah, Madison has 2 more mosques. Try and make it to the others sometime and meet Muslims from all around town. They are:
Masjid Us Sunnah, located at 4718 Hammersley Rd.
Madison Muslim Dawa Circle, located at 2617 E Washington Ave.
Is there a place to pray on campus?
Alhamdulillah, The University has provided us with a designated prayer area in the Memorial Union, which has a great location right in the middle of campus. Go to the second floor of the Union and you will find the Reflection Room. There is also another, smaller prayer area which is nearby in the Red Gym. Once you enter the Red Gym, head to the 3rd floor Mezzanine and you will find it on your left.
When are the MSA meetings held each week?
MSA meetings are held every Tuesday from 9-10PM in the 2nd floor of the Red Gym, where our organization's office space is located. Everyone is welcome to attend!
I just wanna hang out with other Muslims. How do I get to know who’s who? It’s kind of intimidating…
No worries! Everyone starts somewhere. Email either our Brother’s Events Coordinator, Siddique Akram, or our Sisters’ Events Coordinator, Nayab Khan. They’ll get you introduced to your family away from home.
