New Website Coming Soon
With udpated information!
Assalamu 'Alaykum!
If you’re a new student, mubarak! You’re now a student at one of the greatest universities in the world! If you’re returning, welcome back! The Muslim Students Assocation is working its hardest this year to meet your needs as a Muslim student on campus.
Here’s a short FAQ on Islam@UW:
Allright, first things first, what’s the lowdown on the Ramadan situation? I’m hungry!
The MSA has got you covered for all your Ramadan needs insha’allah. Check out the Ramadan section of the website for more details.
Is there a mosque nearby? Where do I go for Jummah prayer?
Here at UW we’re blessed to have a mosque pretty much right on campus. Located at 21 N. Orchard St, it’s known as the Islamic Center of the Madison Area, or ICMA. Go down Dayton St. towards Camp Randall Stadium, and turn left onto Orchard St. The mosque is down the street a bit. It’s a white building with the words “Islamic Center” written above the front door. If you turned left onto Orchard, it should be located on your left.
The door is locked during all times except for Friday prayers, but there is a keycode, which you can enter on the door, which will let you inside at any time you wish. The front entrance is for Brothers, and there is an entrance in the back for Sisters. Please email the President, Rashid Dar, at rdar@wisc.edu for these keycodes.
Most students attend ICMA for Jummah prayers. After Jummah, those who don’t have class usually go out and have lunch at a nearby restaurant. Feel free to join us, we promise we won’t bite too hard.
Are there other mosques in Madison?
Alhamdulillah, Madison has 2 more mosques. Try and make it to the others sometime and meet Muslims from all around town. They are:
Masjid UsSunnah, located at 4718 Hammersley Rd.
Madison Muslim Dawa Circle, located at 2617 E Washington Ave.
Is there a place to pray on campus?
Unfortunately, the University has not provided us with a prayer room as of yet, but it is a long-term project for the MSA insha’allah. Talk to Muslims who’ve been here for a few years, and we’re sure you’ll learn about some inconspicuous (and some not so much) spots for salat. And besides…there’s always ICMA.
When are the MSA meetings each week?
The MSA meets every week on Tuesday from 6-9PM! We meet in the Student Activities Center, room 3118.
I just wanna hang out with other Muslims. How do I get to know who’s who? It’s kind of intimidating…
No worries! Everyone starts somewhere. Email either our Brother’s Events Coordinator, Zeeshan Ul Haq (zhaq@wisc.edu), or our Sisters’ Events Coordinator, Neha Hasan (nhasan2@wisc.edu). They’ll get you introduced to your family away from home.
